Dana-
From the first time I heard your story, I felt that you were expressing feelings that I couldn't put into words. I did not have the support that a hospice team provides when my dad passed 4 years ago, but I wish I had. It's so scarey and painful when you lose a loved one, it gives me great comfort to know that you are helping others through this process. Thank you for all you do!

Dana - Thanks so much for sharing your story and for all that you do. What a gift you have to share. Like others here, I learned about hospice through a family experience. Nurse Judy cared for my beautiful 32-year-old sister at the end of her breast cancer journey. I was just a teenager then and had never been with someone who was dying. Judy made it seem like such a natural part of life and something to be shared openly. She had skill in family dynamics, humor, medical nursing and pragmatic care. She was like Mary Poppins with a special bag of tricks - like bringing a blowup Barbie swimming pool to use to comfortably wash my sister's hair in bed. That seems so small and so silly, but it is among those lasting memories that are like the ones I know you must give to your families, too. I Googled Judy tonight and found her named in so many obituaries in our hometown newspaper, listed there like family among the loved ones of the deceased. :-)

Hi Dana, I am so sorry for the loss of your mom. I too lost my mom March 9, 2009 the year I was turning 50. I so miss her every day as the world continues to go on. My children miss their grandmother and my dad also has had to adjust to life without his partner of 52 years. I have a granddaughter that will be 2 next month that she never got to meet but would of so enjoyed as babies were special to her and she loved them all. Thanks for sharing, it helps.

Hi Dana
I wanted to tell you how heartwarming your story was to me. The love you held and still hold for your mother is very special because I know the bond that exists between my wife of 41 years and our two daughters.

I know you’re doing a wonderful job as a Hospice nurse and the service you provide is beyond words. Just keep doing what you do so well.. Sentara is so fortunate to have folks such as yourself providing your type of service to the community.
My thoughts and prayers go out to you, your father and the rest of your family.

My best,
Roy Huber
