Terry S. Smith, Case Manager, Health Care Services
Terry does not let anything get in the way of providing excellent support. She went to great lengths to ensure a pediatric patient with diabetes, whose primary language was not English, received the supportive care he needed.
Lavita Young, Medical Social Worker, Care Coordination,
Lavita is able to really listen to patient concerns and help achieve positive outcomes in less than ideal circumstances. Patient advocacy is a primary focus for Lavita, ensuring that all patients she visits are able to be involved in the decision making regarding their care.
Nancy Rumbley, Patient Care Services Manager, Home Health
In all, Nancy takes pride in her own performance and her staff. Nancy has been an integral part of such important initiatives as the Medical Transport start up in Charlottesville as well as being an ambassador for Sentara Enterprises during Sentara’s merge with Martha Jefferson Hospital and RMH Healthcare.
Terry Wyant, Registered Nurse, Skilled Nursing Home Health
Terry is passionate about patient care. One family wrote about how Terry took the time to listen and respond to each and every question they had about the care she was providing a patient with a unique care need.
Michel takes pride and ownership in the Sentara Medical Group provider practice that she supports. She has been instrumental with the Sentara eCare Health Network® support within our provider practices.
John Hammer, Print Manager, Print Management
John has a positive can do attitude no matter if it is working on the redesign of the CEO Update or producing posters at the last minute. John is never too busy and always makes you feel that your project is the most important.
Mel Santos, LTC Activities Assistant, Sentara Nursing Center
Mel makes keeping the residents informed and involved a top priority. Her enthusiasm and ability to meet the needs of the residents by having a variety of activities planned, helps to keep the residents active and engaged.

Rosmary uses her creativity to make memorable moments for residents. Recently she created a life book for a resident as a tool to help connect with others and overcome agitation related to inability to effectively socialize.
Maureen Haines, Patient Advocate, Guest Services
Maureen recognizes that the patient and their family members are integral members of the healthcare team. She can often be found just being a compassionate support in times of crisis by delivering a cup of coffee, consoling family members, and lending a listening ear.
CJ Robison, Registered Nurse, 2B Medicine Oncology
CJ is conscientious about taking time to explain procedures, processes, and daily activities of the unit to her patients. She has been complimented repeatedly for being a great wing man with her coworkers and an excellent communicator with patients and families.
Lisa Saunders, Patient Services Coordinator, Dedicated Care Center,
Lisa was nominated for the ACE Award because of her consistent display of the Sentara Commitments in her daily practice. Her attention to detail has lead to superior follow up and her responsiveness has lead to positive outcome for patients.
Camilla Poulson, Registered Nurse-Certified, Medicine Unit 3-5RP
Camilla has been recognized repeatedly for her superior care of critically ill patients. Her attention to detail, quick action, and concern for patient safety resulted in averting a potential problem with medication administered to a patient.
Zack Delia, Transition Specialist, Commercial Pharmacy Services
Zack goes above and beyond to ensure patients have their needed medications before they leave the hospital. Zack even went out of his way to pay the copay for a patient who had encountered some challenges with insurance coverage when using Sentara to Home.
Elaine Lehr Manager, Chaplaincy Services, Chaplaincy
Elaine was instrumental in implementing the hospital’s “No One Dies Alone” program for a young patient who was so fearful of dying he would not even close his eyes to sleep. She was able to gather enough volunteers who wanted to just be with this patient to hold his hand when his family could not be with him.

Lynn is being recognized for her professionalism, care, and compassion for her patients and families. She made Halloween really special by setting up “trick or treating” for the children who might otherwise have missed the festivities.

Winter embodies the five Sentara Commitments as she goes about her daily activities. Patients appreciate her humor and light heartedness, and are actively engaged and participate in whatever task she assigns.

Lena’s special smile, pleasant voice and helpful attitude capture the essence of superior customer service in a very special way. Lena is truly a shining example of what customer service should look like.

Pat always put patients first using a kind word and gentle manner to make patients feel important. She leads by example following the Sentara Commitments and never hesitates to ensure her teammates do the same with peer checking and coaching.

Crystal anticipates patient needs and brightens up their day by living the Sentara Commitments. She is energetic and always addresses each patient need with dignity and respect.
Brenda Rowe, Registered Nurse, Oncology Unit 4 South
Brenda is the type of nurse who always has a warm smile and excels in the care of patients with palliative and end of life care needs. She once set up a special “dinner for two” for one of her patients who had to be hospitalized during the couple’s 50th wedding anniversary.
