Sites of Care
Sentara, a not-for-profit health system, operates more than 100 sites of care serving residents across Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. The system is comprised of 10 acute care hospitals (including seven in Hampton Roads, one in Northern Virginia, and two in the Blue Ridge region), advanced imaging centers, nursing and assisted-living centers, outpatient campuses, two home health/hospice agencies and eight locations, a 3,680-provider medical staff, and three medical groups with 618 providers.

Services Sentara offers include a full range of health coverage plans, home health and hospice services, physical therapy and rehabilitation services, urgent care facilities, ground medical transport services, mobile diagnostic vans, and senior services. Sentara also offers medical transport ambulances and Nightingale, the first air ambulance serving Hampton Roads. Optima Health is the insurance arm of Sentara Healthcare and serves approximately 436,000 members in the state of Virginia with Commercial, Individual, and Medicaid plans.

Technology
Sentara provides a wide range of technological advances including the Sentara eCare Health Network®. The clinical system uses innovative technology to link patient medical information between Sentara hospitals, physician practices, and other health care sites over a protected network, enabling the secure sharing of patient information and a higher quality of care. Within this network is MyHealth MyChart, which provides patients with secure online access to their electronic medical information. In 2000, Sentara launched the nation’s first eICU®. This groundbreaking telemedicine system is designed to reduce mortality and shorten ICU stays.
